Lindsey Berkson MA DC CNS
Lindsey Berkson has been called a thought leader in functional medicine, as she has been teaching relicensing educational seminars for physicians for four decades (MDs, NDs, DCs, pharmacists, NPs, etc.). Berkson started out in chiropractic and naturopathic medicine. She published one of the first breakthrough books on endocrine disruption (Hormone Deception, McGraw-Hill).Berkson and was then invited to a world-renowned estrogen think tank at Tulane University (The Center for Bioenvironmental Research). Here she worked with the scientists who discovered the first estrogen receptors and focused on “receptor functionality”.
Berkson formulated the first female nutraceutical line for physicians in the U.S. (Metagenics FEM LINE) and has launched a new hormonal line for Biotic’s this year 2021.
She and Dr. J.V. Wright hold a patent on bioidentical hormones, and she holds another collaborative patent on a drug for dialysis and diabetic patients. She has collaborated and published research on dialysis and nitric oxide with The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
Berkson has authored 21 books, many on hormones, such as Safe Hormones, Smart Women (Awakened Medicine Press, 2010).
Berkson hosts the Dr. Berkson’s Best Health Radio Show. She is a fellow of the prestigious research institute, the Health Science Collegium. Robert Feeley MD
Robert Feeley is a renowned double-board certified addiction and general psychiatrist. He chose to specialize in psychiatry because he enjoys the art of it as much as a science. In the course of his medical training, he quickly found meditation and breathing to be invaluable assets, helping him to thrive in the face of adversity, and to remain steadfast in his commitment to serve others. Dr. Feeley has become an ardent practitioner and teacher of meditation for over a decade. Rob implemented the first-ever residency program wellness initiative at Yale. Mark Houston is Director of the Hypertension Institute and Vascular Biology, Medical Director of the Division of Human Nutrition and Medical Director of Clinical Research at the Hypertension Institute in Nashville, TN. He is on the faculty and Director of the Advanced Cardiovascular Modules 16 A4M/MMI in the US and Director of the Cardiovascular Module 2 for A4M/MMI. He is Clinical Instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Health Care Sciences at George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine and Health Science. He has taught at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and at the University of South Florida, Tampa (USF) Medical School.
Dr. Houston has four board certifications by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) (FASH-Fellow), the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine (ABAARM, FAARM) and American Board of Cardiology (ABC) Certification in Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease (DABC). He holds two Masters of Science degrees in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, CT (MS) and another in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine (University of South Florida School of Medicine-Tampa (MSc). Jim LaValle is an internationally recognized clinical pharmacist, author, and board-certified clinical nutritionist, with over 35 years of clinical experience. LaValle is best known for his expertise in performance health and integrative care, and has seen thousands of clients over the years. With extensive background in natural products, lifestyle, drug/nutrient depletion, he uncovers underlying metabolic issues that keep people from feeling healthy and vital. Andrea Nakayama is an internationally known Functional Medicine Nutritionist, educator, and speaker who is leading a movement to transform the health industry into a system that works, empowering patients and practitioners alike with the systems and tools of Functional Nutrition. David Rakel, MD
David Rakel started his career near the Teton Mountains in Driggs, Idaho where he was in rural private practice for five years before completing a two-year residential fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. He was the founder and director of the University of Wisconsin Integrative Medicine Program and was awarded tenure in the department of family medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in 2010. Dr. Rakel is co-editor of the Textbook of Family Medicine (8th and 9th eds), Editor of Integrative Medicine (1-4 eds), co-editor of Conn’s Current Therapy and editor-in-chief of Primary Care Practice Update. He is author of a book on the power of the therapeutic relationship titled, The Compassionate Connection (WW. Norton Publishing). He has received NIH funding to study the ‘clinician effect’ and to incorporate healing modalities into medical school curricula. His team was awarded a 6-year contract to educate clinicians in the Veterans Health Care Administration towards a Personalized, Proactive and Patient Driven cultural shift in health care delivery. He has been awarded a number of teaching awards including the Baldwin E. Lloyd clinical teacher award, the UW Department of Family Medicine faculty excellence award, the Marc Hansen lecture award, the resident teacher-of-the-year award, The Leonard Tow Faculty compassion award and has been elected to the Gold Humanism medical society. His professional passion is to explore complex systems and develop insight into how each can find a path towards health. This focus has served in addressing clinician burnout and strategizing to improve health care delivery systems. Dr. Rakel is now the Professor and Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
